Cardross Primary School, Argyll & Bute, Green Flag Award

EDM number 402 in 2017-19, proposed by Brendan O'Hara on 16/10/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Environmental protection and Schools.

That this House congratulates the pupils of Cardross primary school in Argyll & Bute, and particularly the school's Eco-Committee, on the hard work and commitment that recently resulted in their being awarded a Green Flag in recognition of the school's excellent work in promoting care of the environment locally, nationally and globally; notes that this award is Cardross primary's third Green Flag award in just six years and that it recognises the enormous amount of work put in by all the staff, led by headteacher Elspeth Davis and principal teacher Kelly Girling, who encourage the children to walk or cycle to school, help the children grow fruit and vegetables in the school garden, have erected a greenhouse made from recycled plastic bottles, introduced a textile recycling scheme and have established a food waste team which keeps a close check on the amount of food waste by weighing the amount discarded every day and compiling weekly statistics; and wishes the staff and pupils of Cardross primary school well in their continuing efforts to make the school and their community as environmentally aware as possible.
