30th Anniversary Of Annexe Communities

EDM number 259 in 2017-19, proposed by Patrick Grady on 05/09/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Community care and Incomes and poverty.

That this House congratulates community-led social enterprise Annexe Communities on its 30th anniversary; notes that the organisation, which is also a limited company and a development trust, works to improve the health and wellbeing of disadvantaged residents, particularly those suffering as a result of poverty or poor health, by providing a range of community services; further notes that Annexe Communities began life as Patrick Community Association in 1987 after 10,000 residents petitioned Glasgow City Council in 1996 to grant the community use of the former annexe of St Peter's Boys' School on Stewartville Street; is impressed that its staff and 30 regular volunteers now serve 500 people, including 300 older residents from its headquarters in Partick and another 500 residents in its outreach neighbourhoods of Anderston, Townhead, Drumchapel and Easterhouse; also congratulates Annexe Communities subsidiaries Axis Health Hubs, Lunch for Less and Connects2Project; encourages residents to make the most of their community facilities, parents and toddlers, community singing and music groups, health treatments, exercise, art and cultural activities and their healthy living cafe which ethically sources its food from local firms and utilises the Fareshare supermarket surplus scheme; and looks forward to the next 30 years of Annexe Communities.
