Hepatitis C

EDM number 21 in 2017-19, proposed by Mary Glindon on 21/06/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Diseases, Health education and preventive medicine and Health services.

That this House notes that hepatitis is a leading cause of death globally with a toll exceeding that of HIV; further notes that World Hepatitis Day on 28 July 2017 is one of only four disease-specific global awareness days endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO); is alarmed that most of those infected by hepatitis C, which can lead to potentially fatal cirrhosis or cancer of the liver, are unaware of their condition; recognises that hepatitis C is completely curable by effective new treatments; and calls on the Government to publish and prioritise a strategy for increasing awareness, testing and treatment to meet the WHO target of eliminating hepatitis by 2030.
