Stoke-On-trent UK City Of Culture 2021
EDM number 191 in 2017-19, proposed by Gareth Snell on 17/07/2017.
Categorised under the topic of Cultural heritage.
That this House recognises and welcomes the news that Stoke-on-Trent has made the final shortlist to be the UK City of Culture in 2021, reminding the UK of the incredible depth of culture and heritage found in the six towns of Stoke-on-Trent, a city leading the world in the creative arts including our world famous ceramic industry, being a former European City of Sport and home to footballing icons such as Sir Stanley Matthews and Gordon Banks and home to the culinary delight of the world famous Staffordshire oatcake; and, despite the honourable achievements of other shortlisted cities, calls on the Government to put its full weight behind the bid for Stoke-on-Trent to be named the City of Culture for 2021.
