Free School Transport For 16 To 18 Year Olds

EDM number 1652 in 2017-19, proposed by Timothy Farron on 09/10/2018.

That this House notes that bus services in the North West have dropped from 4,241 in 2008 to 3,353 in 2018; recognises that in places such as Sedbergh and Coniston it is now often impossible to access sixth forms by public transport; further notes that the Government has raised the age of those legally required to be in education to 18-years old; condemns the Government's failure to provide free school transport for 16 to 18-year olds; and calls on the Government to end this discrimination and make a statutory responsibility for local education authorities to guarantee home to school transport for 16 to 18-year old students supported by government funding.
