Sunday Politics Programme
EDM number 1528 in 2017-19, proposed by Graham Jones on 17/07/2018.
Categorised under the topic of Broadcasting.
That this House notes the recently-made decision by the BBC to cancel the Sunday Politics television show in its current form and the wider cuts made to the news and current affairs section as a result of wider savings the Corporation is undertaking; recognises the importance of high-quality journalism to ensure that holders of public office are properly held to account; further notes that one of the Corporation's public purposes as stated in its 2016 Royal Charter is to provide impartial news and information to help people understand and engage with the world around them; and calls on the Director-General of the BBC to consult more widely on this proposal.
