That this House notes the need for a new migrant worker scheme that allows for a number of non-EEA nationals to work in the UK inshore fishing industry with work permits of up to 10 months annually; recognises the significant shortage of fishermen currently working in the UK inshore fleet, particularly in Scotland and Northern Ireland; further recognises the lack of action and harsh environment from the Home Office has meant that over 25 boats have already gone out of business in the West of Scotland and Northern Ireland in recent months; further notes the tremendous need for these skilled seaman to come and contribute to the local economy to ensure the industry survives; calls on the Home Office to recognise the special circumstances for a migration scheme and to promptly act to introduce such a scheme.
