Supporting Disabled Children In Syria
EDM number 1393 in 2017-19, proposed by Timothy Farron on 13/06/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Children and families, Health services, International development and Middle East.
That this House recognises the horrors of the ongoing civil war in Syria that has killed over 300,000 civilians and displaced millions of Syrian citizens including children; acknowledges forthcoming research from Syria Relief, which has identified over 10,000 Syrian children with disabilities; notes the report found that out of the 789 children surveyed, 89 per cent need medical rehabilitative services, 80 per cent need accessible healthcare services, and 77 per cent need devices to assist them as they live with disability; regrets the psychological and physical trauma experienced by children with disabilities who are living through the Syrian crisis; and urges the Government to strengthen support for disabled children in fragile and conflict-affected settings through ring-fenced funding and mainstreamed programme provision throughout all DflD programming.
