Dementia Awareness Week - Scotland
EDM number 1341 in 2017-19, proposed by Patricia Gibson on 05/06/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Diseases and Health education and preventive medicine.
That this House notes that Dementia Awareness Week Scotland takes place from 4 to 10 June 2018; understands that Scotland's Third National Dementia Strategy (2017-2020) builds on work carried out since dementia was prioritised by the Scottish Government 10 years ago, focusing on diagnosis, support and coordination; recognises that over 90,000 people are living with dementia in Scotland; appreciates that a diagnosis changes the lives of not only a person with dementia, but also their family and friends; further understands that it is vital that people living with dementia feel recognised, valued and supported in their local communities; realises that people can live well with dementia with the right information, care and support; applauds the excellent work of Alzheimer Scotland, particularly in North Ayrshire where admirable work is undertaken to support those directly and indirectly affected by dementia; notes the significant benefits delivered by the Dementia Friendly Communities and Dementia Friends initiatives; wholeheartedly thanks the families and carers whose tireless efforts make such a significant difference; and encourages everyone to learn more about dementia, in order to promote wider understanding of this condition in our wider communities.
