Local Life Savers And Automated External Defibrillators

EDM number 1315 in 2017-19, proposed by Martyn Day on 23/05/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Emergency services, Health services and Training.

That this House recognises and commends Falkirk Community Trust employees Ruth Prophet, Mikey Christie, and the crew of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, whose quick and early action saved the life of Kevin McKay after he suffered a cardiac arrest at Bo'ness Recreation Centre on 13 March 2017; notes that access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was crucial in ensuring Kevin's survival; further notes that evidence suggests the availability of AEDs can increase the chances of survival fiveĀfold, to 50 per cent for an individual who suffers a cardiac arrest; praises community groups who are promoting and proactively working to increase the number of publicly available AEDs; commends the work of the British Heart Foundation for the life-saving HeartStart training they created and deliver, and their partner organisations including the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service which delivers this training; encourages everyone to know that these devices can, and should, be used by anyone in the case of an emergency and need no training to do so.
