Prostate Cancer Awareness In Scotland

EDM number 1309 in 2017-19, proposed by Bill Grant on 23/05/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Charities, Diseases and Health education and preventive medicine.

That this House welcomes the launch of a new campaign by Prostate Cancer UK and bookmaker William Hill to raise awareness about prostate cancer in Scotland; understands that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and kills one man every 45 minutes in the UK; notes that over 3,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in Scotland and almost 1,000 die from the disease every year; recognises that early diagnosis is key to successful treatment of the disease; believes that targeting customers in betting shops, who are typically male and over 50, will enable the charity to reach a large number of at risk men; understands that all 310 William Hill shops in Scotland are supporting the campaign, backed by ABB Scotland, the industry trade body which is part-funding the campaign; and encourages anyone with concerns about prostate cancer to contact Prostate Cancer UK's specialist nurses in confidence.
