Hospital Car Parking - Week-Long Stays

EDM number 1040 in 2017-19, proposed by Robert Halfon on 08/03/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Health services and Roads.

That this House notes the incredible burden that hospital car parking charges present for longer stay inpatients; further notes that in the financial year 2016-17, there were over 1.5million finished discharged episodes with a spell duration of seven days or longer; understands that this does not equate to a count of individual patients, as the same person may have been admitted into an NHS hospital on more than one occasion; notes, in any case, that this suggests a huge number of patients stayed in hospital for a week or longer; is aware that some NHS hospitals in England charge up to £250 a week to park; understands that hundreds of thousands of longer stay patients are affected by hospital car parking charges each year in accessing medical treatment; and urges the Government to scrap hospital car parking charges.
