Feeding Tube Awareness Week
EDM number 924 in 2016-17, proposed by Greg Mulholland on 06/02/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Children and families, Food, Health education and preventive medicine and Health services.
That this House recognises the life-extending and lifesaving benefits of tube feeding for children and young people who are unable to eat by mouth, or who are unable to receive enough nutrition from oral eating; acknowledges that some parents can face negative attitudes as a result of having a child who is tube fed; further acknowledges that public awareness and understanding of tube feeding amongst the British public is not as thorough as it needs to be and that this can lead to negative reactions; congratulates the Feeding Tube Awareness Foundation for its work with the families of children and young people who are fed via a feeding tube and its work to increase knowledge and understanding of the tube feeding process; welcomes Feeding Tube Awareness Week and the opportunity to raise awareness of tube feeding and the conditions that can lead to it being the best method for ensuring that a child or young person receives adequate nutrition; calls on the relevant organisations to work together to further our knowledge of the over 300 conditions that can lead to children and young people being fed via a feeding tube; and further calls on the Government to continue to support young people who are fed via a feeding tube and their families.
