That this House supports the LGBT Youth Scotland initiative, Purple Friday; recognises that Purple Friday will be held on 24 February 2017, the last Friday of LGBT History Month; acknowledges Purple Friday as a day to stand up against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, and to show support for LGBT equality; notes the necessity of this initiative, following the 2012 survey by LGBT Youth Scotland which found that 70 per cent of young LGBT Scots had experienced homophobic, biphobic or transphobic bullying in schools; and is aware of the meaning of the colour purple in this context, which refers to the stripe on the LGBT rainbow flag signifying spirit.
