R:evolve Recycle And The Vaslan Award

EDM number 835 in 2016-17, proposed by Margaret Ferrier on 20/12/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Charities and Waste management.

That this House congratulates R:evolve Recycle on winning the environmental project of the year at the inaugural Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire Awards on 23 November 2016; notes that R:evolve Recycle is a scheme established by the Lightburn Elderly Association Project which has been a tremendous success throughout South Lanarkshire since 1992; understands that every year around £140 million worth of clothing, weighing roughly 350,000 tonnes, goes to landfill; highlights that such initiatives, like the R:evolve Recycle project, can go a long way to help reduce waste and C02 emissions with their make do and mend ethos; recognises the success of R:evolve Clothing, which has shops in Rutherglen, Cambuslang and Hamilton, whereby customers are encouraged to swap their old, unwanted or ill-fitting clothes for something different free of charge; and wishes all of the team every success in the future.
