Sellafield And Ireland
EDM number 817 in 2016-17, proposed by Margaret Ritchie on 16/12/2016.

That this House notes the Economic and Social Research Institute's (ESRI) report, entitled The Potential Economic Impact of a Nuclear Incident - An Irish Case Study, published on 23 November 2016; further notes that the ESRI report was commissioned by the Irish Government's Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government; recognises with concern the conclusions of the report, which found that a nuclear accident in Britain could cause up to 161 billion Euro in economic damage to Ireland; renews calls on the Government to urgently improve safety standards at the Sellafield nuclear site whilst accelerating the decommissioning of nuclear waste at the site; and further calls on the Government to suspend all new nuclear projects until such time as a sustainable solution for existing nuclear waste is established.
