Alcohol Strategy
EDM number 769 in 2016-17, proposed by Kelvin Hopkins on 06/12/2016.

That this House acknowledges Public Health England's comprehensive evidence review of the burden of alcohol-related harm and effectiveness of policy solutions; notes that among those aged 15 to 49 in England, alcohol is now the leading risk factor for ill health, early death and disability; further notes that there are over 1 million hospital alcohol-related admissions each year and alcohol is a contributory factor in more than 200 different health conditions; recognises that Minimum Unit Pricing, an approach already approved by the Scottish Government, can effectively reduce alcohol-related harm while saving healthcare costs; notes that the Government is to introduce a refreshed Drugs Strategy; and therefore calls on the Government to also adopt a specific Alcohol Strategy which includes provision of interventions for at-risk drinkers, treatment for alcohol dependence and regulation of alcohol availability and marketing, underpinned by a Minimum Unit Price.
