CCTV In Equine Slaughterhouses

EDM number 725 in 2016-17, proposed by Liz Saville Roberts on 24/11/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Animal welfare and Animals.

That this House is alarmed by the conditions of equine slaughterhouses; supports the Food Standards Agency, British Veterinary Association and the Farm Animal Welfare Council's calls for the use of CCTV recording in equine slaughterhouses; notes that inhumane treatment in equine slaughterhouses not only affects the 5,000 horses per year that will arrive at a UK slaughterhouse, but also the owners who would risk their own financial well-being to ensure a respectful end-of-life option for their horse; urges the Government to act before more reports of blatant animal cruelty come to light; acknowledges that CCTV is an inexpensive solution to both preventing abuse and ensuring justice if such abuse does come to light; and calls on the Government to make CCTVs mandatory in equine slaughterhouses.

This motion has been signed by a total of 4 MPs.
