Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month
EDM number 719 in 2016-17, proposed by Nicholas Dakin on 23/11/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Diseases and Health education and preventive medicine.
That this House notes that November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month across the UK and that 17 November 2016 is designated World Pancreatic Cancer Day; congratulates all pancreatic cancer charities and their supporters for their activities to raise awareness of the disease during November, including the joint Purple Light initiative, which aims to light up as many public landmarks as possible throughout the month; recognises that pancreatic cancer is the fifth largest cause of cancer deaths in the UK; acknowledges that the disease has the worst five-year survival rate of the 21 most common cancers at five per cent, a figure which has hardly changed over the last 40 years; further notes that a recent poll commissioned by Pancreatic Cancer UK found that 74 per cent of people cannot name a single symptom of pancreatic cancer; and urges the Government to take action to deliver long-overdue improvements to pancreatic cancer awareness, diagnosis, treatment, care and research.
