EDM number 707 in 2016-17, proposed by Angus MacNeil on 22/11/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Companies, Consumers and Electricity.
That this House welcomes the launch of Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks' (SSEN) winter-ready campaign which aims to prepare customers for severe weather; further welcomes the £107 million investment SSEN has made in strengthening its electricity network across the north of Scotland and central southern England, which includes flood prevention measures, refurbishment and replacement of poles and extensive tree cutting to prevent falling branches coming into contact with overhead lines; encourages customers across these regions to note the winter awareness campaign and prepare for severe weather by packing an emergency bag and storing it in a safe place, safely storing a plug-in analogue phone which works in a power cut, saving important telephone numbers, downloading the SSEN Power Track app to be kept up-to-date of any power cut, and signing up to SSEN's Priority Service Register if they, or a vulnerable family member, require additional help in the event of a power cut; and promotes the new free-to-dial single emergency number, 105, for reporting power cuts.
