Glasgow Community Safety Industrial Action

EDM number 676 in 2016-17, proposed by Chris Stephens on 15/11/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Employment, Industrial relations and Pay.

That this House notes the current industrial action undertaken by UNISON and GMB trades union members employed by Community Safety Glasgow, an arms length council company, as advocacy workers, community payback workers, community enforcement officers, community enhancement workers, security assistants and CCTV workers, over the issue of shift working payments; further notes that staff working a similar work pattern in Glasgow City Council attract an additional payment of double that paid to Community Safety Glasgow employees; notes that these workers have helped identify key information in high-profile incidents; agrees that a time when Parliament is debating premium payments and low wages, such discrepancies in pay must be highlighted by parliamentarians; notes the key role of the trades union movement in highlighting pay discrepancies; is concerned that such differences in pay for staff employed in the Glasgow City Council job family is discriminatory; and encourages Community Safety Glasgow to settle this industrial dispute.
