Electrical Fire Safety Week

EDM number 674 in 2016-17, proposed by Jim Fitzpatrick on 15/11/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Charities, Consumers, Fire services, Housing, Manufacturing industries and Standards.

That this House recognises the work of Electrical Safety First, a charity dedicated to preventing deaths, injuries and damage caused by electricity; notes that 21 November 2016 is the start of Electrical Fire Safety week, which is run in conjunction with the Home Office Fire Kills campaign; further notes that 2016's campaign focuses on people being put at risk of potentially fatal electrocution or house fires caused by the sale of large numbers of dangerous counterfeit products; highlights that more than 60 per cent of illegal fake goods are now sold online; notes that 25 November 2016 is Black Friday when many online sales of counterfeit electrical goods take place; notes that counterfeit electrical products often contain faulty parts, causing electric shocks overheating and the ability to catch fire, thus contributing to the number of domestic house fires caused by electricity; and calls on the Government to assess and tackle the number of dangerous counterfeit electrical goods being sold online by traders in the UK.

This motion has been signed by a total of 43 MPs.
