90th Anniversary Of The Scots Independent
EDM number 664 in 2016-17, proposed by Steven Paterson on 08/11/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Devolution and Press.
That this House congratulates the Scots Independent (SI) on the 90th anniversary of its first launch by the Scottish National League (SNL) in 1926; recognises that initially it was organised as the newsletter of the SNL, later to become the National Party of Scotland, which in turn merged with the Scottish Party to form the Scottish National Party in 1934, before becoming an independent newspaper in 1957 and the only media voice to support Scottish independence continuously through its history; notes that the SI is regarded as the oldest continuously published political newspaper in Europe; and wishes its Board, Editor and volunteer contributors continued success from its base in the City of Stirling.
