Centenary Of The SS Connemara And SS Retriever Tragedy

EDM number 635 in 2016-17, proposed by Albert Owen on 02/11/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Death and Shipping.

That this House notes that 3 November 2016 will mark the 100th anniversary of the tragic accident between the SS Connemara and the SS Retriever, destined for Holyhead from Greenore, that took the lives of 97 people; observes that the incident has, to this day, connected maritime communities across the Irish Sea; praises the excellent efforts of local societies to raise funds for memorials; and commends the work of Michael Ferguson for his play, A time to remember, about those devastating events.
