Continuous Glucose Monitors
EDM number 565 in 2016-17, proposed by Jamie Reed on 18/10/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Diseases and Health services.
That this House notes that Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) and Flash Glucose Meters (FGMs) are a life-improving technology for people living with type one diabetes; further notes that CGMs work 24 hours a day and can include alarms to indicate when glucose levels are too high or low; notes that these devices are proven to be more useful than blood glucose meters alone in helping users to maintain target blood glucose levels and limit the risk of hypos; recognises that the devices play a particularly important role in supporting users to avoid night time severe hypos, and that severe hypos cost the NHS £13 million per year; considers that access to this important technology should not be based on whether or not the patient is able to afford it; and calls on the Government to make CGMs and FGMs available on the NHS for adults and children living with type one diabetes.
