Co-Operative Support For Pirap

EDM number 456 in 2016-17, proposed by John McNally on 14/09/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Companies and Waste management.

That this House highly commends the Co-operative for becoming the first retailer to back the Plastics Industry Recycling Action Plan (PIRAP) and welcomes the company's appeal to others to support this very worthy initiative; notes the conscientious position that the company has taken in encouraging more organisations in the supply chain to acknowledge the importance of taking joint responsibility in order to foster a common goal to increase plastic packaging recycling, and thereby promote this very creditable practice; acknowledges the responsible attitude towards sustainability and environmentally-focused solutions that the Co-operative has already made in its consideration of how it creates and innovates in the packaging of its products, thus supporting and assisting the customer to engage in the recycling process; recognises PIRAP's promotion by the British Plastics Federation and Plastics Europe; and praises the 47 supporters who have already committed to increasing plastic packaging recycling, thus facilitating the wider public’s engagement in this practice.
