Proposed Changes To Huddersfield Royal Infirmary

EDM number 438 in 2016-17, proposed by Barry Sheerman on 12/09/2016.
Categorised under the topic of Health services.

That this House supports the campaign to save the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI) accident and emergency services; believes that patient care and clinical excellence should determine health outcomes and not narrow financial concerns; notes that a quarter of a million people depend on the services at HRI; further notes that 80 per cent of local residents are against the clinical commissioning groups' proposed changes; agrees with the majority of the GPs in Kirklees that the proposal is unsatisfactory; further believes that these proposals are not safe, cost-effective or in the best interests of the local population; is concerned by the additional travel time to the new location which will put a serious strain on Yorkshire Ambulance Service; and calls on the Government to intervene to find a safe, cost-effective and viable alternative arrangement.
