Gian Bove, Argyll & Bute Young Inspector For Children And Young People
EDM number 386 in 2016-17, proposed by Brendan O'Hara on 05/09/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Children and families and Community care.
That this House congratulates 23 year old Gian Bove from Oban on becoming Argyll and Bute's first volunteer Young Inspector for Services for Children and Young People; notes that Gian, having grown up in the care system, saw the Young Inspector Project as his opportunity to give back to the system he came from; further notes that the Young Inspector Project was developed in collaboration between the Care Inspectorate in Scotland, the Scottish Government and is fully supported by Argyll and Bute Council, and is designed to enhance consultation, participation and strengthen communication between service providers and service users; believes that this scheme can help young people develop communication skills, facilitate learning and development, build confidence, self-esteem and resilience and provides opportunities for otherwise marginalised young people to take the lead and have a voice in shaping the future of residential care and services; and commends Gian for completing the training course and believes that he can inspire other young people in social care to participate in shaping the service.
