UNICEF Change The Conversation Breastfeeding Campaign

EDM number 301 in 2016-17, proposed by Alison Thewliss on 07/07/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Children and families, Food and Health education and preventive medicine.

That this House commends UNICEF on launching their campaign to Change the Conversation on breastfeeding in the UK; notes that the UK has among the lowest rates of breast feeding in the world; regrets the cancellation of the national infant feeding survey in 2015, which provided vital data on breastfeeding rates; believes that breastfeeding can save children's lives and profoundly improve health; considers laying the blame on women for breastfeeding rates to be deeply unhelpful; supports the establishment of a high level national coordinating body for infant feeding; further supports work to create a supportive, enabling environment to encourage breastfeeding; and calls on the Government to work to remove social, cultural, economic and physical barriers to breastfeeding in the UK.

This motion has been signed by a total of 38 MPs.
