Categorised under the topics of Economic situation, Employment, Industry, Leisure, Regulation, Service industries and Tourism.
That this House celebrates the economic, social and cultural importance of the UK's night time industries, which include bars, pubs, nightclubs and restaurants enjoyed by millions each week; recognises that night time industries contribute £66 billion to the UK economy each year, account for six per cent of GDP and employ 1.3 million people, including many young people; further recognises the importance of night time industries to tourism and the UK's success to date in remaining competitive as a global destination for nightlife; notes the cultural impact of the night time industries in music, fashion and design and that this elevates the UK's reputation internationally; recognises the significant potential for urban and high street regeneration where local authorities develop strategies to support and develop a thriving night time economy; acknowledges the significant challenges currently faced by night time industries, particularly resulting from the pressures of wider development, regulation, licensing restrictions and often unsubstantiated fears of associated crime; and therefore calls for greater recognition of the value of the night time industries and for the Government and those in devolved and local administrations to do everything possible to ensure that the UK's night time industries are supported and can continue to grow and flourish for the benefit of all.
