Education Funding In Coventry And Nationwide

EDM number 1106 in 2016-17, proposed by Jim Cunningham on 23/03/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Public expenditure and Schools.

That this House welcomes the decision to create a fairer funding formula for schools across the country; is concerned that, whilst funding for some local authorities schools will increase, other local authorities will see a reduction in schools funding; is further concerned that Coventry schools will face cuts of 2.4 per cent; regrets that this will leave schools in Coventry with a £26 million deficit by 2020 and that schools across the country will be left with a £3 billion deficit by 2020; is concerned that cuts on such a scale would hit staff numbers and impact on the standard of education provided to students not just in Coventry but across the country; and calls on the Government to reconsider its plans and to support an education system that will not see funding cut from any schools and that works for all children.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
