America, Ulster Scots And St Patrick's Day
EDM number 1052 in 2016-17, proposed by Gregory Campbell on 13/03/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Cultural heritage, Nationality and North America.
That this House notes the enduring and outstanding contributions to democracy and freedom which will be celebrated in mid-March 2017 in the US where the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ulster Scots President Andrew Jackson, alongside the annual celebration of St Patrick's Day in Washington, will be acknowledged; and expresses the hope that the substantial number of people of Scots Irish lineage who helped write the US constitution, helped establish that newly fledged nation state and pioneered the beginnings of democratically elected governance in what was to become the most powerful nation on earth, will be recognised.
