National Museum Wales Workers Dispute And The Labour Welsh Government
EDM number 104 in 2016-17, proposed by Jonathan Edwards on 25/05/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Employment, Industrial relations, Museums and galleries and National Assembly for Wales.
That this House notes that the PCS Union on behalf of National Museum of Wales workers has been in dispute with the museum management over proposals to scrap extra payments for weekend working; further notes that museum staff work on average over 35 weekends per year; notes that museum staff are paid as little as £15,640 per year with the extra weekend allowance providing a vital financial supplement; notes these changes could cost some workers up to £3,000 per annum in lost earnings; is concerned that management are threatening staff with termination of contracts and re-employment on revised conditions if they do not accept the latest offer; condemns the ultimatum made to the Welsh museum workers; expresses concern that this ultimatum has been made directly to workers, by-passing their trade union; notes that the National Museum for Wales is a Welsh Government-sponsored body which is accountable directly to Welsh Government Ministers; calls on the Labour Welsh Government to ensure that contract negotiations are undertaken via the trade union of museum staff and stop the disgraceful ultimatum made to workers.
