Child Poverty Measurements And Targets
EDM number 877 in 2015-16, proposed by Margaret Ritchie on 15/12/2015.
Categorised under the topics of Children and families and Incomes and poverty.
That this House recalls that the Child Poverty Act 2010 was passed with cross-party support; recognises the critical role that the measures and targets in this Act had on monitoring child poverty; notes that the Government's proposal to replace the measurements enshrined in the Act to monitor life chances was opposed by approximately 99 per cent of respondents to the Measuring Child Poverty consultation published in November 2012; further notes that the life chances measurements will not include income indicators of child poverty; believes that these measures fail to measure and tackle child poverty in working households; and calls on the Government to reconsider the replacement of the original measurements and targets.
This motion has been signed by a total of 37 MPs.
