Promote Fairtrade
EDM number 743 in 2015-16, proposed by Roger Mullin on 23/11/2015.
Categorised under the topics of International development and International trade.
That this House acknowledges that Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath constituency has three Fairtrade towns, Dalgety Bay, Burntisland and Lochgelly, which is more than any other constituency in Fife; understands that Dalgety Bay is one of the leaders of the Fairtrade movement in Fife; recognises that the Fairtrade Foundation is a global organisation that strives to ensure that farmers and workers get a better deal for their produce; further understands that the Foundation's Show Your Hand campaign seeks to highlight the requirement for international aid and development; congratulates the efforts of all of those working within Fife and beyond to ensure that global trade can work for the poor, with particular emphasis on sustainable development; and calls on the Government to do everything in its power to ensure that trade is fair, and that the poor and disadvantaged do not suffer as a result of unfair trade agreements.
