Cap On Care Costs

EDM number 717 in 2015-16, proposed by Norman Lamb on 17/11/2015.
Categorised under the topic of Community care.

That this House condemns the Conservative Government's decision to abandon the plan to introduce a cap on care costs and extended means-tested support from April 2016, a landmark policy within the Care Act 2014 enacted by the Coalition Government; believes that the Government's U-turn on its manifesto commitment to introduce the cap is an outrageous betrayal of people struggling with the costs of care and support for loved ones who suffer from dementia, motor neurone disease and many other complex and long-term conditions; expresses grave concern over the strain that the absence of the cap will continue to place on families who face potentially unlimited social care costs; and urges the Government in the strongest terms to re-commit to the introduction of the cap on care costs from April 2016 as originally planned.
