Senator Ivan Cepeda And The Colombian Peace Process
EDM number 667 in 2015-16, proposed by Mark Durkan on 06/11/2015.
Categorised under the topics of International politics and government and Latin America.
That this House expresses its full support for fellow parliamentarian, Colombian Senator Ivan Cepeda, recognising his positive role in the Colombian peace process; notes the hostility to the peace process from Inspector General Alejandro Ordóñez who has now brought charges against Senator Cepeda which could lead to his impeachment; recognises that these charges are a response to a congressional debate in which Senator Cepeda highlighted alleged past links between former President Uribe, now a Senator, and paramilitary groups; believes that Mr Ordóñez is a close ally of Senator Uribe in his opposition to the peace process; condemns the actions of the Inspector General in pursuing this case with such politically motivated charges; calls for these charges to be dropped; and encourages the IPU to continue to raise this case and take action in support of Senator Cepeda.
