EDM number 635 in 2015-16, proposed by Chris Evans on 03/11/2015.

That this House warmly welcomes the launch of My Crohn's and Colitis Care in Parliament on 4 November 2015; supports the production of this new information and advice guide by Crohn's and Colitis UK, the leading UK charity in the battle against Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis; recognises that at least 300,000 people in the UK, 1 in 210 of the population, are affected by Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, which is more commonly known as inflammatory bowl disease (IBD); understands that every 30 minutes a person is diagnosed with IBD; acknowledges that IBD affects people of all ages, with peak diagnosis in the teens and twenties and an increasing number of young children being affected; notes that Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are debilitating, long-term and fluctuating conditions which have no cure, with lifetime medical costs comparable to other major diseases such as diabetes and cancer, estimated at £900 million per annum, UK-wide; further recognises the devastating impact IBD can have on a person's ability to work, learn, socialise and form and maintain relationships; and calls on all parliamentarians to help engage with local health services to improve the quality of care for those living with IBD, in line with the NICE Quality Standard and IBD Standards 2013.
