EDM number 439 in 2015-16, proposed by Roger Mullin on 14/09/2015.
Categorised under the topics of Africa, Health staff and professions and Immigration.
That this House congratulates Dr Essam Hadoura on his elevation to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists; commends him for his 25 years of resolute service to the health profession in the UK, which has included roles in medical education and training for the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Royal College Postgraduate Tutor for NHS Fife and Honorary Senior Lecturer for St Andrew's University; notes that Mr Hadoura has invited members of his family to join him from their home in Egypt in attending the ceremony for his admission to the Fellowship of the College on 25 September 2015, and that their applications for a short-term visa in order to do so have been refused; condemns the mean-spirited nature of this decision taken to deny Dr Hadoura's family entry in the UK to attend this event, which marks a milestone in his many years of dedication to the health service; and calls on the Government to ensure that every possible step is taken so that the family of Dr Hadoura may be given permission to enter the UK to celebrate this remarkable achievement with him.
