Toll Exemption For The Silver Jubilee Bridge And Mersey Gateway Bridge

EDM number 221 in 2015-16, proposed by George Howarth on 30/06/2015.
Categorised under the topic of Roads.

That this House notes the announcement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 23 April 2015 to exempt residents in Warrington, Cheshire West and Chester from paying a toll to cross the Silver Jubilee Bridge and the Mersey Gateway Bridge when it is opened in 2017; calls on the Chancellor to also exclude the people of Merseyside from toll charges for crossing the bridges, given that many people in Merseyside live as close to the crossings as do residents in Warrington, Cheshire West and Chester; further notes that the local authority areas of Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens all border the Borough of Halton; and calls on the Chancellor and the Secretary of State for Transport to open discussions with the Liverpool City Region councils to agree a toll exemption scheme for local residents funded by the Government.
