Funding For Flood Prevention Schemes In Kendal, Burneside And Staveley

EDM number 1329 in 2015-16, proposed by Timothy Farron on 11/04/2016.
Categorised under the topic of Flooding.

That this House notes the devastation caused to Cumbria in the floods of December 2015; is encouraged by the Environment Agency's work in developing proposed flood prevention schemes to protect the county in the future, including a whole system flood prevention scheme for Kendal, Burneside and Staveley; further notes that the likely cost of this scheme is around £25 million; believes that this constitutes a sound investment given that the infrastructure cost to Cumbria of the December 2015 floods is thought to be £500 million; and therefore calls on the Government to support this scheme urgently and to provide 100 per cent of the funding for it.
