Legal Protection For Unborn Children

EDM number 1150 in 2015-16, proposed by Fiona Bruce on 25/02/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Crimes of violence and Criminal law.

That this House welcomes the verdict in R v Wilson wherein Kevin Wilson, who repeatedly stamped on his ex-girlfriend's stomach in order to bring about the death of her unborn child, was sentenced to at least 16 years in prison; considers that the punishment is appropriate to the severity of his heinous crime; notes that Mr Wilson's sentence was handed down for child destruction, a crime under the Infant Life Preservation Act 1929, which, together with sections 58 and 59 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, is the sole legislation preventing such violence; affirms that the criminal law is absolutely right to prohibit such atrocities; and deplores the efforts of pressure groups to repeal these acts of parliament which provide necessary protections to human life before birth.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
