That this House notes the growing need for peacemaking and provision of aid to civilians in Syria and that civilians are being besieged and starved in Madaya and other Syrian towns; further notes that the use of explosive weapons in populated areas has become a common practice by the Syrian regime and that, despite the escalating violence, bombings and militarisation of Syria, women have been playing a vital role in supporting communities and building non-violent alternatives to both the brutality of the Assad regime and the terrorism of armed extremists, as highlighted by the Badael Foundation's report, Peacebuilding defines our future now; notes that women's peacebuilding in the region includes opposition to recruitment of children by armed forces, supporting communities and survivors of sexual and military violence and education programmes on coexistence and tolerance, with the overall objective of creating conditions for Syria's future to be a pluralistic, peaceful and democratic member of the international community; and calls on the Government to listen to women, to support and reinforce peacemaking activities in Syria, to implement UN Security Council resolutions 1325 and 2242 on Women, Peace and Security, and take forward UN Security Council resolutions 2139, 2165 and 2254 relating to allowing humanitarian access across Syria, in besieged areas and across borders, and a UN facilitated political process for bringing peace to Syria, including the meaningful participation of women and relevant civil society actors, with quota of at least 30 per cent representation of women in all negotiating parties' delegations, and the aim of equal representation.
