Nottinghamshire County Council's Funding Statement

EDM number 1046 in 2015-16, proposed by Alan Meale on 01/02/2016.
Categorised under the topic of Local government.

That this House is deeply concerned about the Government's funding settlement for Nottinghamshire County Council and the devastating effect it will have on people living and working within its jurisdiction, especially since the authority has already secured £212 million of savings and efficiencies since 2010; notes the recently proposed local settlement will see the council needing to find an additional circa of £9 million in the next financial year, which is on top of the £62 million it is already expected to cut back; believes the proposals to be extremely unfair, unjust and disproportionate in Nottingham County Council's case as little recognition has been given to its much higher proportion of age population in the country, the loss of traditional industries in the area and citizens higher social care needs; further notes that the Government also has not yet delivered on its promised consultation on any of its planned changes to which no grant would be allocated prior to their introduction; and calls on the Government to desist from its planned local formula and instead to work with the authority in a meaningful way to help it deliver the services it is charged to provide.
