Bangladesh Elections
EDM number 593 in 2013-14, proposed by George Galloway on 17/10/2013.
Categorised under the topics of Asia and International politics and government.
That this House notes that a general election is due to be held in Bangladesh shortly; further notes that in the past a caretaker government was installed during the election period to ensure that there was no abuse of government power during the election; further notes that this constitutional arrangement was changed by the incumbent government and that the incumbent government now intends to remain in office during the election period; believes that the forthcoming elections will lack credibility if the incumbent government does not step aside in favour of an interim or caretaker government; calls on the Government to make representations to the Bangladesh government reflecting the widespread concern in Bangladesh and amongst British citizens of Bangladeshi origin about the arrangements for the forthcoming elections.
