Fortification Of Bread And Flour

EDM number 265 in 2013-14, proposed by Roger Williams on 18/06/2013.
Categorised under the topic of Food.

That this House values the benefits for the nation's health that fortification of bread and flour brings; notes the findings of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition that not fortifying flour would adversely affect the nation's intake of nutrients, in particular calcium intakes for children aged 11 to 18 years and women aged 19 to 64 years, especially given that intakes for children and young adults are already low and women are at a high risk of osteoporosis; further notes with concern the increased costs to the milling industry and increased complexity for UK businesses that would arise if the regulations were changed or revoked; and calls on the Government not to make any changes to the Bread and Flour Regulations 1998.

This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs.
