Cost Of Living

EDM number 146 in 2013-14, proposed by Margaret Ritchie on 21/05/2013.
Categorised under the topics of Economic situation and Incomes and poverty.

That this House is concerned about the increased cost of living; notes that the rising cost of energy, petrol and food is putting a strain on many households; recognises that average household costs have risen four times faster than average pay in the last five years; further notes that fuel prices have risen by 80 per cent since 2002 and that energy prices have risen by 30 per cent in the last three years; is concerned that research carried out by the AA shows that fuel prices in Northern Ireland are among the highest in the EU; further notes that nearly half of all households in Northern Ireland are concerned about the ability to make ends meet; and urges the Government to take immediate action to lower the cost of living.
