Specialist Housing For Older People
EDM number 878 in 2012-13, proposed by Ian Mearns on 07/01/2013.
Categorised under the topics of Elderly people and Housing.
That this House recognises the growing need for all forms of specialist housing for older people, including retirement and extra care accommodation; notes that the number of people aged over 65 in the UK will grow from 10 million to nearly 17 million by 2035; further notes that there is clear evidence that specialist housing of this type delivers health and well-being benefits to its residents; believes that more housing of this type needs to be built; and calls on local and national government to promote the delivery of all types and tenures of this important form of accommodation in the future.
