Kemback Street Adult Day Centre In Dundee
EDM number 708 in 2012-13, proposed by Jim McGovern on 09/11/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Community care and Special educational needs.
That this House is concerned by the decision made by Dundee City Council to close Kemback Street Adult Day Centre in Dundee; notes the invaluable work carried out at this centre for adults with learning and physical difficulties over the past 27 years; further notes the close relationships carers and staff have built with families and service users to create a relaxed and friendly environment where service users learn basic cooking, communication and social skills five days a week; further notes that the council consultation regarding the future of the centre was not carried out in an effective or appropriate way as families and staff were not consulted; further notes the hugely detrimental effect closing this facility will have on families, staff and service users particularly those who have attended the centre since its opening 27 years ago, who have built strong relationships with the location and the staff; and calls on the Scottish and UK Governments to intervene and save this valued and needed centre and to acknowledge the incredible work which is carried out by its staff on a daily basis.
