Community-Led Diabetes Prevention

EDM number 706 in 2012-13, proposed by Keith Vaz on 08/11/2012.
Categorised under the topics of Diseases and Health services.

That this House is alarmed by the recent Committee of Public Accounts report calling the standard of care for diabetes in England depressingly poor; notes that the number of people with diabetes is expected to rise by 700,000 to 4.4 million by 2020; further notes that diabetes and its related complications currently costs the NHS an estimated 9 billion per year; recognises that the increases in diabetes cases will place an almost unmanageable strain on the NHS; and calls on the Department of Health to develop a community-led diabetes testing programme by utilising the near 10,000 pharmacies in the UK to provide free testing and advice to patients.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
